Quality Improvement (QI)

Quality improvement (QI) consists of systematic and continuous actions that lead to measurable improvement in health care services and the health status of targeted patient groups. The UK-CHSR converts the evaluation of UK Healthcare QI projects into scholarship, especially given the growing number of peer-reviewed journals focused on QI. This scholarship describing preliminary projects also supports grant proposal submissions.

The Center’s QI research follows these principles:
   •  Integrate with ongoing activities
   •  Focus on patient-centered care
   •  Involve teams of health workers in testing changes aimed at enhancing the value of health care
   •  Evaluate various QI methodologies such as Six-Sigma and the Toyota production model (i.e., lean)
